September 20th
Join us at Lori Wilson Park
They Will Surf Again, a no-cost program underwritten by Life Rolls On and generous sponsors, is the most popular program of Life Rolls On. Injured athletes from around the country gather together for a day of surfing! Some have not surfed since their injury, some have never surfed, some surf all the time despite their varying mobility. TWSA connects dozens of volunteers, with a handful of injured surfers, together for a day of excitement, joy, and best of all, surf! Safety precautions and experienced watermen (and women), along with lifeguards will be present. No prior surfing experience is necessary. Quality of Life surveys may be required for future participants.

Through the efforts of LRO Board Member Richard Yelland, TWSA was born many years ago with a San Diego to Santa Cruz surfing expedition raising funds and awareness for spinal cord injury research. TWSA has since grown into a bi-coastal outreach program, that is also major component of the US Open of Surfing, the largest surfing competition in the world!

If the surfer could hear the panel's commentary during the said ride they might consider giving up surfing all together. Nothing is more disgusting than someone who blows a whole wave trying to do some lame butt-hop or a gay, flat, rail-grab reverse.  Walker D- Judge

Count down to the event.

It's 2 weeks from this saturday and more volunteers are still needed.

Check out this video from a  california LRO event a couple weeks back and vote for them to win some cash.

My lame computer keeps blocking the page but I am going to sign up.  It is something that will brighten someone's life and all it takes is a few short hours of giving.

The Ocean conservancy is doing the Environmental Maintenance on the same day. I have already committed, so I will be slinging tires.

The wetsuits aren't for us, unless you are cold natured. They are for the participants if they want to wear them. It prevents the participant from getting cut/scraped or just cold in the water. They can get cut/scraped really bad, and not feel it. So, it is their choice.

I think I still have an old farmer john type spring suit (sleeveless)...that might be easier for someone to fit into.  I'll bring it anyway.

Valerie contacted me and asked it I knew any more people with disabilities who might want to try surfing in the event as they didn't have many signed up. ( this was a few weeks ago) So if any of you know of some kids at the local schools or maybe war veterans who might want to get back into the water please ask them if they would like to try it.
She also said they didn't have many surfboards for the disabled. If you guys remember the ones from last year, they were pretty tricked out, with pads and straps for the surfers to hold onto. These are somewhat specialized boards and don't have a clue where you could pick up one like this, so if anyone has an idea where we could get one please speak up. I know some of you are pretty handy board makers, might give you an idea for a project for the next few weeks. It would be cool if we could get a few made. The ones from last year had padded decks, where you would normally have wax, and straps for hand holds for the surfers to hold onto, kind of like surf rescue boards have. A soft top , or funshape would make a great start, add some straps ?? any ideas ? Tax right off ?? If we plan to hold this every year it would be nice to have a few boards like this around.
I know Matt Kechele was there last year and was checking out the boards and getting some ideas, but Valerie said people were having trouble contacting him. If any of you have the inside scoop on how to get in contact with him please speak up. If nothing else he probably has ideas on how the boards were constructed. I should be there again this year, hope to see yall there..

I was informed that the event was already organized and that they didn't need any more help so this is news to me.

The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum has a board member that is available to help with these concerns if this is indeed the case.

All involved should have his contact information so please ask for what you need.
