Yeah I plan on making an appearance at the Festival on the 17th. Did you buy your ticket? I still need to snag mine. I'm pretty stoked about it. I'm not sure if anyone I know is going...You guys need a third wheel?

Should be a great way to add some ratings to my list!

ORVAL kicks much ass. Was that one fresh or aged?

he had enough to make that cock in his ass seem non existent

had another sierra nevada pal ale tonight, also had a la fin du monde

at the art show i had a ship yard export, a brewers choice, and i stopped by UGB and had me an ommegang rare vos.... that was fuckin good and being that i just finished the bottle about ten minutes ago, i still have the taste of that delicious beer on the palate
Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux

Rare Vos is a tasty beer. Black and Blue sounds like indigestion in a bottle for thill. For some reason, and fruit beer w/ berries does that to me... :think2:

i had that last night and a sessions ale
Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux
Post by: thill25 on May 05, 2008, 02:11:34 PM
Nope it was their Belgian Strong.
Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux
Post by: big rick on May 05, 2008, 02:37:56 PM
ah... neglected to read that part in the previous post... the belgian strong is a wonderful beer! get the schmegma from the bottom of the bottle and let it drain into the glass (i was pouring in a snifter) and enjoi flavor...

the saint somewhere saison athene is a really great brew as well...

if you pour heavy and a head forms, it seems like it will never go down (NJ is gonna fuck with this one)
i poured into a 22oz duvvel snifter glass (if it is a snifter??...) and it was a beautiful light orange color....i shared a snifter or two with a few buds and then let the scrapings from the bottom of the bottle drain into the glass...

oh man, thats where all the flavor is right there

def a good beer and well worth the try if you can find one... i'll check shamrocks and pats to see if they have any of those beers
Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux
Post by: thill25 on May 05, 2008, 02:48:10 PM
The Duvel glasses are called "Tulip" glasses. Snifters are a little different.

but drunken recollection always works good for me
Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux
Post by: thill25 on May 05, 2008, 03:03:05 PM
Generally speaking, you serve your higher alcholic beers (double IPAs, impy stouts, barleywines, etc.) in a snifter where as Belgians are usually served in a tulip or goblet a/k/a trappist glass.

lost coast brewery's raspberry brown
there is one more that i can't think of the name for the shit of me but i know that it was freakin AWESOME!!!!

we paired foods with everything this is a list of the foods:
Ranch dip made with Hebrew Genesis Ale
Bratwurst braised in Sprecher Black Bavarian
Kielbasa braised in TenFidy
Belgian Tripel Pear and Raisin Brownie Delight

and there were supposed to be two more beers that should have been involved but my manager forgot them at home cause he was in a hurry

i had to work a lot of the beer tasting as far as pouring, helping people get plates forks cups and everything else so i don't remember if that was the last one or two beers.....

AH HA! one of the beers we had was mack in black..... i still have mixed feelings about that beer....

i love the taste of the beer as it gets warmer.... the flavors really start to stand out...

and yes, that DFH PS marron is AMAZING

that was one that i had a whole one of and i also had a 12oz pour of ten fidy, affligem, mack in black, and the lagunitas sirius

Did you like it?

If you like Stella and SNPA you should try Laguinitas Pils, North Coast Scrimshaw,Acme California Pale Ale, and OB Dale's Pale Ale.

i would say try the gonzo imperial porter but thats like a kick in the jaw compared to the SN porter....

and try a good portion of those pale ales that thriller listed... you'll like a lot of them....

one other one to try (IF you can get your hands on it) is terrapin hop shortage....

its an IPA that has similar but much more mellow flavor of bells hop slam

All the Coors light drinkers should try Dixie Jazz Amber Light...GREAT light beer. Lots of flavor even though it is only 92 calories.

Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux
Post by: big rick on June 26, 2008, 11:15:05 AM
had the weyerbacher hop infusion last night.... nice and smooth IPA....

i also had the simcoe IPA, blithering idiot (really nice barley wine), and merry monks which was a good golden colored abbey triple.....
went down nice and smooth and had some amazing flavor to it

now here was the weird one.... earlier in the day when i was hanging out at the bar, i had started up a new beer list....
lost coast scotch ale was third on the beer list as i had it after i had the hebrew rejewvinator which is a heavy, brown/ mocha/ amber colored, fruit beer if you will.... the presence of figs is definitely there.... and so are the malts.... a good/ kinda complex beer for sure!

but prior to that i had another extremely different beer that we just put on tap tuesday night
coney island brewerys albino python
its a cloudy yellow beer that the up front flavor is very unique.... kinda has a flowery taste to it as a secondary taste... but there is ginger as an upfront taste but here are some of the stuff thats being said about it on rate beer which i'm sure one of you will find kinda weird and i heard the same thing earlier in the day from a customer too:
Quote
Bomber. Poured a cloudy yellow with big bubbles and a quickly fading white head. Aroma of lemon, grassy herbs and a mild potpourri of spices dominated by ginger. Flavor here characterized by wheaty and sweet cereal malts (Wit-like), citrus and a slurry of spices and herbs, again mostly ginger which is at the forefront. Thereĺs also a noticeable fennel presence which gives me the impression that an Italian sausage had been dropped accidentally into my glass. Quite fizzy and soda-like body. Very interesting potion, though the fizziness kind of ruined the experience for me. Draught version is probably better.

Nice... Lots of bars up there tap it since it's local.  Reggae, that would make TOTAL sense to you if you ever get a chance to stop in and see the joint. haha... It's the last place I know of that still serves big azz baskets of tater tots.  :bandito:

Doughnut beer huh? sounds interesting... i wouldn't doubt it considering they have names for their brews such as - Donkey Punch, Happy Ending, and Hummer.

Post by: big rick on August 02, 2008, 01:48:12 AM
ah, been meaning to post on this thread for a while.....we had a beer tasting last week..... i've tried a few new beers and other shit....

i'll start with the beer list first:
brooklyn keller helles, schneider wisse, weyerbacher blithering idiot and old heathen, bells java stout, allagash black, triple karmeliet (aged two years), kasteel donker
coney island albino python, murphys irish red, great divide titan IPA, oskar blues gordon DIPA

all of which were amazing....

the triple kareliet was really good but not what i expected from a triple.... it was a little light on flavor... but still good nonetheless

the allagash black... AMAZING! great beer... didn't get to write anything down about it so i can't explain anything as far as flavor BUTT it was really good and def worth the buy if you get your hands on some

recently we had slam dunkel from weyerbacher on tap.... really good beer.... extremely cloudy at first and a strong presence of banana (it is a dunkel) the first part of the keg was awesome... the second part once air started to really out weigh the amount of beer, you cloud tell that we were reaching the end as the beer had the taste of a banana that was kinda going old....

i also recently had a really nice weizen dopplebock by the name of hang ten.... i like this beer a lot and would recommend it to a lot of people that aren't into beer or are just starting their journey

and then a fuckin awesome beer that has a lot of spices with a great citrus twist in it would be the mendocino white ale.... unfiltered and AMAZING!!!

definitely something you can chill out pool side with and not have a problem drinking.... i had one last night and was definitely satisfied with it after an extremely busy night of work

and last but not least i had the brooklyn gran cru.... oh man, i could drink this all the time if i had to.... all i can say is try some for yourself

dont think of it as a pale ale adn just as a beer. then you wont have to compare it to anything. and it is a PALE ale.
good beer glad to have another Florida brew.

There is one in Fort Pierce on the 13th. I may end up going to that one for sure. I think it was $25 or so...

I was thinking about e-mailing them. Not interested in attending if it is mostly macro shit or the same lineup as the GOBF '08.

not watery, look at the ingredients: artifical sweetner. just a real bad beer. well i guess it is watery

bottle: poursa dark brown with a very bubbly tan head. aroma is slightly roasty, small chocolate, some very sweet malt. flaovur is a light roast asn off sweet malt and very small hints of chocolate. an odd underliying watery bitter throughout.

so over the weekend i drank heavy seas hang ten, the great divide hades sammiclaus helles, brooklyn local 1, and amadeus

the heavy seas tasted different from the other ones i had... i dunno why... the hades is a wonderful belgian style ale.... the sammiclaus helles... not so much.... i'm not down for those beers that have more of a malty flavor (heavy malts).... the brooklyn local one... amazing...

and the amadeus... well, its a white beer imported from france.... it has a citrusy nose... for that i smelled lime... and the flavor i got right off the first taste was marijuana.... thats while it was fresh out the fridge....after that i had drank the beer rather slowly to let it warm up and release more of the flavor.... i got more citrus when i drank it later on and then the taste of marijuana was something that was more of an after taste....

great beer nonetheless and definitely something you can drink during the summer days

Oh god, with all the new beers that have come out I couldn't begin to tell you how much or all of everything that I have had in the past two months.... However, I can tell you that I, last night, had a specialty release limited edition bottle of brooklyn brewerys Black Ops... This was a beer that was ONLY given to people that worked for brooklyn brewery.... Labeled in an office by the head honcho... We got it here in FL and I got to have some of this wonderful beer

I also had a bottle of wake and bake which was a delicious oatmeal coffee stout from terrapin

Some others:
Left hand snowbound
Scaldis noel
Dunedin farm house ale (their winter release)
Brooklyn savoir faire
St fellufin (SP?)...
Stone ruination IPA
Beamish
Rouge john locker stock ipa
Merry christmas happy new year 2006 and 2008
A two year old bottle of saison dupont
A collaberation beer between nogenO, jolly pumpkin, and someone else.... It was the bday and I was drunk when I had this....
Mendocino imperial IPA
Lagunitas brown shugga and imperial red
DFH 120 min....
Triple karmelite (sp?)
Shipyard imperial porter.... We ran this through a randal with peppermint tea and candy canes in the randall... It was tastey...
And geeze.... I don't remember what we got on tap right now 100% but I do know I have pretty much had over 100 different beers in the past two months.... Needless to say, I like beer

Oh yeah, we went to a stone release party for our christmas party last week on monday and they had a choc. Stout? I think... That was pretty sweet...

Oh yeah, I also had am erie railbender IPA, their pilsner and the hooker IPA

Good times

I had Sweetwater Creeper over Christmas break. It's a Tripel/IPA mix, 10% and very tasty. I also had a Diebels Alt that my brother-in-law brought back from Germany.  :ya-ok:

i was thinking about picking up the chainsaw ale but want to save to see if i can pick up a bottle of black ops again from brooklyn...

there are a few others that i wanna pick up

good on ya there rooster!

had a Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Weizen that i was allowed to bring in to texas de brazil....

WOW

had a nice smoked flavor to it.... paired extremely well with the pork tenderloin the smoked salmon bacon wrapped chicken and the fillet Mignon... was well worth it @ $3 for the beer

i also was allowed to bring in north coast brewerys old rasputin russian imperial stout

i had this as a desert beer which i paired with a chocolate base/ regular body cheese cake that had a caramel painted top with a walnut crown..... the vanilla flavor and the sweetness of the malts really meshed well with all of the wonderful flavor the cheese cake had to offer....

some really good pairings....

later that night i had a Mad Anthonys APA which was surprisingly refreshing and, although not what i was expecting for an APA, soothing to the palate

and this is a close resemblance of what NJ will be drinking out of later tonight

the highland brewery cold mountain winter ale is really good... comparable to the sam adams chocolate bock

in some cases better..... a bit more milk chocolate flavor to it... good desert beer.... seems like it would go good with brownies or chocolate chunk cookies....

had the highland gaelic ale tonight which was rather nice....

waiting to get in the stone russian imperial stout

if you like IPAs check out stones pale ale, the stone IPA, arrogant bastard, and the ruination IPA....

arrogant bastard is a hoppy amber that is very well balanced and goes down rather nice... has a taste of grape fruit...

I can't wait till I get an extra five minutes on my hands.... I hit up 33 of 54 beers that were brought to a private tasting.... And by private I mean if you knew about it all you had to do was bring a specialty beer or three and you were good....

A lot of R.I.S's and some old, different, and new beers....

When I get home I will try to post what I tried and pictures of what I got....

And baldy locks, that beer you got me was great!!! I have some left over that imma drink after work

I don't really think there is such a thing as a good tasting beer low in calories.  I tend to think the more expensive beers are actually better for you since they use better ingredients.

Well July is perfect for saisons because you want them to fement at 80 degrees or so and even up to 90 degress for a few days is ok. so no worries about temps on saisons. it is the perfect Florida summer beer to brew.
and yes i do have a fridge for fermenting with a temp control on it. i am lagering my first pils right now at 35 degrees.
let me know when you are coming over to get supplies.

had me some la chouffe the other night :D

tasty

a rouge maierfest lager... eh... not bad but not my cup of tea it has too much of that pilsner taste to it from the malts which i'm not too into.... yet, i can drink mamas lil yella pils all night? strange

Podge Belgium Imperial Stout which is always yummy :D

old rasputin russian imperial stout (a definite favorite)

and i picked up a beer from a local brewery that won BEST wood barrel aged beer at the great american beer fest

redlight ended up selling all of their cigar city beers half off so i bought a bottle of the guava grove saison for like $7 or $8

Brewer was generous enough to bring out about a gallon of his latest homebrew. It was an IPA..that just blew me away.
I'm not as seasoned as most but Ive had quite a few IPAs and I think Brewers was the best I've had. Definitely by far, the BEST homebrew I've ever had.  :clap

Big props Brewer! You go girl!

I smelled fresh cascade hops for the first time yesterday, reminded me of something else green you guys probably know of.  I also toured full sail brewery and drank ltd 1, ltd 2, session lager and amber, IPA, hop pursuit, and Pale ale.  Why doesn't every bar offer a beer sampler?
Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux
Post by: big rick on April 21, 2010, 11:33:38 PM
Because a lot of people want to make a quick dollar in the bar industry...

If people would respect the beer they drank, then it would be a different ball game

But who can respect something that cost less than a penny to make?

oh jesus christ i had some AMAZING beer from cigar city...

its called the 110K+OT#3

its a double IPA with a nice red/orange hue with a very light tan head...

a beautiful sweet and floral nose... a very nice perfume to compliment such a beautiful beer

the taste of this double IPA isn't what you would think.

a double IPA would normally be extremely bitter and harsh on the taste buds
however, this beer is nice and sweet with a slight bitterness to it but not enough to really
give you that harsh kick back that one, that isn't a seasoned beer drinker, would normally
have to deal with.

as i highly recommend this beer, i start to think, damn, i am going to be beach side
over the weekend... and i have a GREAT idea... why not bring this delicious beer out

but its only in a keg... so i just realized that i have a few growlers sitting around
so i am so going to redlight red light on friday night and buying two growlers
worth and bringing them out

shazam!

Sunday AM I went to my mother in laws house to help out for a while waiting for the tide to drop.
Ahead of me, driving up A1A, a Jeep Cherokee had a beer in a foamie sitting on the back bumper.
As I turned west to cross the causeway, he kept going north,
with the Sheriff's car right behind him.  No flashing lights that I saw.
Maybe it's legal if the open container is outside the car?

I am glad you enjoyed it. That beer was a mistake I made in the recipe but it turned out good. Glad you got to try it, maybe the last beer I make there for a long while.

That's what I have in my mini-kegerator, that shit is dope!

So far I've been through; Dales Plae Ale, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale,  and now this Jai Alai.

Having draft beer around is awesome.

My recycle bin is getting lonely though.

Sounds good. Is it as hard as that dogfish 90 minute? haha. That shit gave me the thirst!

Title: Re: Beer Thread Part Deux
Post by: shadow on December 13, 2010, 12:19:13 PM
I think this stuff is smoother the DFH 90 or 60.

I like the 60  but the 90 is a little too much for me.

the Jai Alai is hoppy but has a maltier taste than most IPA's ive tried.

Gawd I sound like a beer fag.

Nutt, did you try the jai Alai on draft?  If not, it is better that way imo.

Have not had it on draft yet but,
they are getting it on Draft at the beer bar down the street from my house, Belle Isle Yacht Pub  :ya-ok:

Probably going to visit the brewery in Tampa for a tasting, Cigar brewery.

I cant wait!

Just heard Butwiper bought Magic Hat, that sucks imo. It was a small brewery from Vermont. and I liked #9!

i didn't doubt that, that was eventually going to happen....
they were helping them with shipping and supplying for so long

thats the only reason that we didnt carry magic hat at all when i was working at underground...

IF we got magic hat, we HAD TO buy at least six cases of bud and six of bud light

fuck that

The Jai Alai is currently my favorite beer, draft especially. It's amazing the taste difference from bottle to draft. I need to try one of those oak aged ones.

Shadow- Did they have you guys pull your Dog Fish 60 min?? I understand there is a recall due to bacteria in the bottles. I had it on draft at Smokey Bones BBQ of all places and it was great!

the jai alai is AMAZING and i think that bells brewery has quite a
bit of competition for holding the best/#1 IPA around.

i don't doubt that cigar city will give a good majority of the breweries
a run for their money

i loved it... it was delicious but i drank that on new years and didn't take any notes

and that was after a few bottles of champagne to myself too

they say on the bottle not to age it longer than july and if i had not given my friend
my third bottle but also bought the other two that were at the ABC i found them at,
i would have done a few taste test to see what the beers would have tasted like now,
six six months from now, and a year from now

i like doing lil beer taste like that with the random beers i purchase

 COPIED FROM ORLANDO SENTINEL.com

A Lake County father and son are accused of injuring a man because he drank their last beer, authorities said.

Lake County deputy sheriffs were called to a stabbing at an Astor home Friday and found 46-year-old Jeffrey Wilkerson with a 10-inch laceration that stretched from his abdomen to his back. He was taken to Halifax Medical Center for treatment and gave a statement to detectives.

Wilkerson told deputies he was at his home with Jason Higdon Jr., 21, and his 43-year-old father, Jason Higdon, Sr., when they attacked him over the alcohol. Witnesses intervened to stop the fight.

Officials do not know the type of beer.

Deputies said the Higdons fled the scene but were later arrested in Seminole County.

That is pretty neat, but it is only one gallon. You would have to brew 4 batches just to get through a week of drinking.
Great way to start brewing though.

the convenience store on the corner wouldn't sell me beer because my license expired on my birthday last month. how much is a new one going to cost me? probably an exorbitant amount.

it was Florida beer co Swamp Ape and it is closer to 10%. Swamp Head is in Gainesville and make Big Nose IPA. Which is about 7%. The two dont even compare though. Swamp Head is excellent.

as far as triples like golden monkey are concerned?

there isn't one that i can say is my favorite.
there are way too many out there for me to like

i had a triple that the ravenous pig brewed up three years back
that i just had on st.pattys day. that was PHENOMENAL! i had it
back when they first brewed it and it was awesome and i wish i had
more; however, i will never have that beer again.
and then there is a beer like val dieu triple which is amazing and
i can purchase anywhere they sell craft beer

so three beers, all the same style, three totally different taste and
appearances when it comes to beer.

the key with drinking high ABV craft brew is to limit mixing of styles and drink water.  That has limited the pain factor for me.  I know some of the worst hang overs I have had were from drinking a bucnh fo different things at WOB.

As for Bars, WOB is good but I find them to be a bit pricey.

Redlight has a better vibe.

LHL - thats exactly what I did. Lesson learned.

BR, the WOB I am referring to is in lake mary, I aint trying to drive 45 minutes to baldwin park in ORL to drink like a beer snob. :D

One BIG drawback to WOB?? NO food, not even pub food. I did learn that the place across the street in colonial town center has like 50 beers on tap.

WOB ALWAYS =  :sick#2:  :sick#2: :sick#2:   for me.  I'm usually laid up for two days before I feel "normal" again.

Had one of these at the Tiki's pad the other day  :ya-ok:

yeah, i know of that world of beer...
they are all the same really

you can order out and have food delivered to the world of beer
that you are drinking at. redlight redlight isn't just about the beer,
its the location, the atmosphere, the people, the music, everything

LHL knows

i've been trying to get shreader and a few others to come over to
redlight when they are all in town but everyone has horse blinders on :/

there is going to be a new beer bar in downtown orlando i believe
that my friend pete is going to open up but i think its going to be that
over hyped spot that the popped collars and glittery shirts go to
long before it gets localized.

i kind of want to see if i can get a job there though

BOOM! Just for you 9er we are back on track.

BR.. That key lime beer ruined my night. I met my sister and went out for a happy hour mission around Cocoa Bch. First stop was the Cocoa Bch brewery and we had the key lime beers. My sister was fine, but the heartburn I got basically ruined my night. I think I forced down two Coors Lights at the Bch Shack and ended up going home. I like that Kona Big Wave as an alternate to Coors Lights lately.

nice find there rooster!!!

damn, sorry to hear.
ron at playalinda brewery has a keylime beer that'll
make you feel like you just had the most amazing
and refreshing beer of your life

especially with that whip cream on the rim of the glass
that compliments the beer and gives you that key lime
pie flavour. AH! so good

but i can see where something might go wrong with a
beer like that because key limes are extremely sour/tart
from the get go.

too much key lime can definitely cause issues and for it being
an ale brewed with pilsner malts, then it's supposed to be super
light, probably rather crisp, tart, and refreshing

hopefully, there is a key lime beer that will quench your thirst
