Title: Shit happens quick.. understatement
Post by: RoosterJaws on April 08, 2010, 12:50:28 PM
My uncle passed away this morning from stomach cancer.  He was given 2 days to live yesterday.  The world
lost a very good man today.  Retired NYC Fireman and one of the most upbeat positive men I have ever met.
RIP Uncle John  :angel1

stroke and is barely hanging on, and now this comes completely out of the blue.  fucked up

Thanks for the kind words!

It amazes me the positive impact my Uncle had on so many peoples lives. The viewing last night was very surreal. They had 100's of pictures out of famil and good times from years past. His three daughters and my Aunt are holding up better than the rest of us.

Sidenote: I got to eat breakfast thismorning with some family at ones of those diners from the TV show Diners Drive Ins and Dives. It was really good. The only place I've seen where you can order a Tom Collins and a side of eggs!  They also have a full bakery where I scored my Pops a black n white cookie FTW. Viewing again tonight then funeral tomorrow. Then we are hitting the city that never sleeps for a few days to blow off some steam.

Sorry to hear this. I lost an uncle last year to pancreatic cancer; he had been sick for about a year. Now, whenever I go back to my hometown, I have on less family member to visit.

guess this is the best spot...

all was going well last night then the call came. my next door neighbor, great friend, self-proclaimed surrogate mother, community activist, and our City manager died last night in surgery to repair a valve in her generous heart. We are devastated and want to comfort her husband but now there is very little I can do, it's a helpless feeling.

live every day to it's fullest.

So I get a call this am from a friend of mine telling me a friend of ours and two of his friends have been surfing Nica for the past two weeks.  They were being driven to the airport by their guide Keith when a car hit them head on... Keith and one of my friends died on the scene, the other was in a coma and passed this afternoon sometime.  My friend somehow walked away from all this with minor injuries.  These kids were all in there early twenties..... Keith was American and owned two houses over there lived in one with his wife and two kids and rented out the other.  Im not sure the name of the camp Keith ran, but Im sure this is a pretty big shock over there..

The one I personally know is the only one that lived .... I think. There might be one other survivor?  The few people I have talked to are very shaken up and I don't want to pry for too many details.  I know the kid in the coma passed away this a.m. I doubt the medical attention over there was
the greatest.  Shitty situation all around, Mel Bch community is really shaken up over this.  ALL were very good kids  :angel2:

Spent the weekend sitting with my brother Tom at wuestoff in the hospice ward. He was just diagnosed with cancer a few weeks ago. Never seen anything ravage somebody so fast. He was just out riding his bike around town a few weeks ago... healthy as anybody.  They think it started in the pancreas and spread everywhere. freaking fast.  IF you ever hung out at the old ABC on the island or attended any of the NKF surfies at the holliday inn back in the good ol' days I'm sure he served ya a strong one. He used to run all the banquets and bartend. It really sux, he is just a low key nice guy.  He took the news pretty well and blames it on agent orange from his tours in vietnam.
Anyway.... it just sux. He's still hanging on at this point. One tuff fucker.

Well... my brother died today, very peaceful. At least he didn't have to suffer long. Still sux. Getting diagnosed 10 days ago with cancer, not much time to freak out. Thursday he was flirting with the nurses in CCH .... I had no idea shit can happen that quick... He'll be missed. Hope he sends me the lottery numbers from the other side.

Called my landlord to let him know the a.c. is acting up and his son answered the phone. My landlord was in town back in June and slipped and messed his knee up really bad and was put in Cape Canaveral Hosp  He was released and went back home. Well back to my phonecall that his son answered. My landlord developed a blood clot and passed away the day before I called. This was a very healthy man prob in his late 50's and a super cool guy. RIP

Appearantly he left a note at work telling them to send the paramedics over to recover a body. She left him over complete BS. He was telling me Friday about all this shit she was making up about him. He was saying he couldn't eat and hasn't slept. I told him she wanted out and she was just grasping at whatever she could about him to make him feel bad. There was obviously something else going on behind his back with her. I told him it was a blessing in disguise. I had no idea it was gonna end like this though.

Well I hit the nail on the head with it being awkward. NOBODY even made eye contact with his "wife". She was starving for attention and when she got up to speak 3/4 of us left. Don't think this was mean on our part please, just too much typing to go in such detail. I spoke with his mother and she is one of the sweetest women I have ever met. It was heartbreaking to feel her pain.

Im good thanks for asking.  We all went up to Fridays which was his spot after work and we all had a shot and a beer like we all used to do.  Then
I broke the news to the bartender when she asked where he was.  That was a good venting time for all of us real friends he had.  The memorial had
a horrific fake feeling to it other then his Mom.  I am still pissed off, but she will get hers somewhere down the road, karma is a bitch.

Today I bought a battery for the Saturn and put it in, took it and put gas in it and even washed it and filled up the tires.  It felt strange driving the car-ut was like being transported to the past. I looked on the floor board and saw these fliers from the last weekend that my son and I spent with my father.  It had been almost a year since I drove the car.  Before my father passed away I was hurting for money and after he passed on, I started driving his car because it saved me from spending the money for repairs that were needed on the Saturn.  Money that if I spent, it would have crippled me.  Now it is a little over a year later and I needed to put the Mustang in the shop and I easily bought the parts I needed and got the car back in action.  So much has changed during this time. I am engaged, back in school, and hardly think about when my next pay check comes in.  My situation is completely different.  Just like bad things can happen in your life, your life can just as easily improve.

I wish that Roosterjaws friend could have seen this.

I also feel for you LHL.  It is hard dealing with aging family members and worse when someone is sick at the same time.

Waiting fot Gadot.........

They have moved grandad to the Hospice home in Ocala.  They are saying he will pass anytime.  I hate waiting for the call!

Ol' Bob Raitt was born in 1916.  I have been thinking of all the things he has seen and done over the years.  Crazy changes to our way of life and culture.

Sorry man. Im sort of going through the same thing. My grandmother has been on hospice for about a year now and while I was in costa she refused to take her oxygen and blood pills, so now she is jondis and lethargic. :(

My grandmother passed a couple years ago and then my grandfather went about a month later. It was heavy. Just because its inevitable never makes it bearable. I know. Just talking about it here makes me feel uneasy.

Here we go again. Just got home from the hospital. Pops ain't doing to good. Had to call 911 this afternoon and have him rushed to the ER. Never in my life has he needed an ambulance or looked as bad as he did today. This is a tuff one to get a grip on. 9 million tests are being ran and I won't know anything concrete til tomorrow. He's been sick with a cold and today he told me he couldn't take the coughing anymore and he needed to get to a Dr. 30 seconds later he basically collapsed outside as I was trying to get him in the truck. Talk about shot happens quick.

she was responsive for a bit but then went back to sleep?
they think that the brain swelling is going down

if this holds true, then she might over come this...

Is that the Kelly Fitzpatrick that worked for the Sentinel?

You know what Rick... I had a friend that when I was young, he used to surf the E.S.A. and stuff with us. The guy was built like an ox. He used to do some stupid crap and never seemed to get hurt. One early morning, My friend and another friend were driving down 44 and my friend fell asleep at the wheel. His passenger was this guy named Dave. Dave was always thin and even now he looks almost like a 17 year old kid. Well, my friend passed away in the wreck. Dave dislocated his arm.

There really does not seem to be any reason for what happens. Sorry that all of this has been happening.

Unfortunately deaths come in three's just like pregnancies.. Maybe it's natures way of evening things out.  I've had a pretty bad run as of late too w/ some friends passing, just not really posting about it.

^Agreed.  I try not to post anything
except professional stupidity
which I hope will make somebody else laugh
but it sure does seem like I was just going to
weddings and christenings all the time until recently
and now it's all funerals.  Another one this weekend.   :-\

Same here. I just post a few semi-witty comments about things now and then and put in my two cents about the surf scene. I don't try to dive to much into my personal life... I don't want to push any of you over the edge and maybe even off the ledge of a high bridge.

You guys are bummin' me out!

Seriously, sorry to hear some of you guys are dealing with the loss of loved ones, I can only imagine how tough that is.  I guess I've just been lucky not to lose anyone close to me.

Not that there's not PLENTY
of people I'd gladly push over the edge, off the bridge, etc.
Just not on here.
At least not that I know of...

things like this just suck to deal with and its obviously tough
on the brain... its tough to sit here and do work to say the least

Sorry about that Rick. I have been hearing the stories on the news a lot and I was baffled by the story. Terrible. It is awful just having a friend pass on but to have it as a media story is worse.

I should know, huh? Nothing beats seeing your deceased friend in a polarizing fauxcumentary.

Biggie- I rode that tram about 8 hrs prior to the accident coming back from California. Reading it I couldn't believe it, plus Ive never seen a "driver" like the news is saying. I'm sorry for all involved and that is a freak accident by definition as any. I will be less carefree on the tram from now on.

The hardest part is that all parties involved are friends.

We're a giant family so we all feel the pain.
Lots of people showed up Friday night at public house
To remember him.

That came to mind for me. I let my kid play in that window / sitting area while the tram was moving. smh

Thats unfortunate. It sounds bad. I hope he exhausts all resources and tries to seek alternative medicine before the kidney transplant.

watching the womens world cup matches (Canada
beat Switzerland on their home turf), I change the
channel to something she wants to watch and
freaking Michael J Fox is on some show and the
character he was portraying was dealing with kidney
disease and dying from it.

My X Brother in Law/Still one of my closest friends was given two years to live due to kidney disease. He went on a waiting list for a new kidney. I went and checked to see if I could be a donor, but our blood types didn't match. This was years ago. After a few false alarms, He lived in Merritt Island at the time and was told there was a donor only to drive all the way down to Miami to have something fall through.  This happened twice to him. He finally got his kidney transplant and has been healthy and passed his two year check up with flying colors, so there is hope!!

Strange - Our driver went to the hospital Thursday to service units and was turned away. He saw the guy on the ground, they said it was the Project Manager for Brasfield and Gorrie which is the construction firm remodeling the hospital, his name was Ryan Miller and was let go less than 24 hours prior.  Your guy Blake too Rick??
