Palm Bay Fires --how you can help..
« on: May 13, 2008, 11:36:36 AM »

This is a fine time to give what you can to the Red Cross, no donation is too small. There are at least 100 homes damaged or destroyed, just think about that for a minute.......

Times are tough financially but you get back way more than you give so give all you can. You can also go thru your clothes and linens, towels, dishes, cookware pots and pans, and give them to a church. These people are going to need assistance.

Calvary Melbourne...I bet they will accept clothing and household items. My good friend is the Food Service Director there and he lives in Palm Bay, his home is OK I spoke to him yesterday and we discussed the up coming needs of the citizens, and members of the Church

Thanks for the info NJ.  These fires are about 15 minutes from my house.

Keep these families in your prayers!

You should call in on 104.1 and give them this info...people have been calling in asking how they can help.

I rode my bike down there yesterday afternoon. It's horrible. I counted 17 homes burned to the ground in the short area I was in. It looked like a war zone. These people really need our help.

This morning as I was driving north on I95 there was a huge convoy of fire engines...maybe 60 of them all headed towards Palm Bay.  Lights flashing, but silent sirens.  Some had even come from as far as Baton Rouge.  The sight gave me goose bumps.

That's a great idea about donating clothing and household goods to churches...the red cross can't accept those types of donations at present b/c they don't have storage space or the ability to sort and distribute the goods.

We talked lastnight about getting together any and everything we don't wear, or just excess clothes. God knows we could use the space.

Good on ya Nutt! Best post I've read all day.

I'm thinking about making a run to go and donate clothes and whatever else I can find. I'm going to ask several neighbors & friends if they want to donate too. McTiki is right, we have a TON of clothes to donate.....kids & adults.

echo is correct. the red-cross only takes money which is fine, that is the key ingredient in problem solving. Usually Churches do accept clothing and household items and are good at getting them out to the people in crisis or need.

Seriously if you can spare $5, it does not seem like much but it adds up. on that red cross link their page allows you to make a donation online, how easy.
