Beach Clean-Up on Saturday, May 24th
« on: May 23, 2008, 07:02:21 AM »

The Surfrider Foundation's Vero Beach District is leading a beach clean-up this Saturday, May 24th from 10:00am until 11:00am at the River Oaks beach access. Bring your friends and family and kick off Memorial Day weekend by cleaning up our local beaches. There will be lots of great giveaways and we'll also be discussing the issues with parking at Long Point.

If you live or surf in south Melbourne Beach, you need to come out to the beach clean-up! We'll be talking about preserving access to your favorite beaches, which is currently being threatened.

The River Oaks beach access is located approximately 2 streets north of Long Point on the east side of A1A, just south of Whitey's Bait and Tackle. There will be a Surfrider flag at the turn.

About 26 or so. Lots of big trash too. Two chairs and a bottle of Crown Royal.

YOu know what's funny? When I did beach clean up with the kids on Earth Day, we had a very large sackful of "roaches" .  :high:   My kids were giggling everytime they found one at the beach.

We even found a cigarette pack full of joints and also in Satellite Beach, like Pelican area, there were some needles.

I hope everyone wore gloves and shoes cuz you never know what you find!!

I had Huntington beach flash backs minus the waves.

In Jax Beach, the Junior life guards goes out and empties trash cans that are placed all up and down the beach.

Maybe if we had something like that, we can keep the beaches cleaner?

I wonder what we can all do to make it so that it's not such a hardship and also better for our beaches.

I find stash all the time when working 2nd North.
It is disheartening trying to keep up.
I have a design for a battery powered vacuum for butts on the beach. Kind of like a leave blower in reverse . The mesh of the collection bag would allow sand to pass thru but capture the butts.

we can always find better usage for the incarcerated rather than laying around watching TV and eating on our dime.
