Beach Access
« on: October 29, 2008, 05:18:33 PM »

We are spinning up. Surfrider of Cocoa Beach needs input and support to accomplish our goals.
Please let us know if you want to help, advise or just give a opinion. Chime in here. We will have website (website is a whole discussion in it self) BLOG functionality shortly.

:flamethrower: This is a easy one.  :flamethrower:

Initiative;
•   Florida Beach Access Amendment
Part V of Chapter 161 Florida Statutes
Campaign:
•   Support all Chapter network activities regarding the passing of amendment.

•   NASA launch site access to beach.  Current Sebastian Inlet Chapter Campaign.
The Cocoa Beach Chapter has an opportunity to participate in preventing the closing of access to Playalinda Beach and the associated environmental issues regarding the construction of a commercial launch site in our north region.
Our Position is there is “abandoned in place” launch complexes on the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station that could better be utilized

Program Beach Access
City of Cocoa Beach enhanced accessibility to area beaches.

This is important to show how a beach community known as the Surfing Capital of the East Coast of the United States can be the “Best Model of Beach Access”, aka “Best Practices”.
List of Street data will support amendment changes to Part V of Chapter 161 Florida Statutes.
Program supports Surfrider Initiative: Beach Access
and also supports Cocoa Beach Chapter Dune Awareness program (ref below) & Surfrider Initiative: Beach Preservation.
Position is, Dual function of supporting both Surfrider Initiative and Chapter program indicates good fit.

•   Beach wheel chair purchase and utilization.  Many events related to surfing occur in our community with a complete lack of access due the lack of beach wheel chair availability. Partnering with the City of Cocoa Beach or other sources to obtain beach wheel chairs is a viable program/project that supports the Life Roll On Foundations Summer event, and addresses Beach Access for handicapped citizens within our municipality.
Position is beach wheel chairs support Dual Chapter Programs and should be supported.

Initiative; Beach Preservation,
Program
•   Dune Awareness, restoration, vegetation protection, fencing.

•   Beach Clean up
Specific attention to cigarette butt pollution waste stream.
