CB's Brian Johnson Scouted by the Pros
« on: February 21, 2009, 10:21:10 PM »

I watched this kid play baseball today and he seems to be the real deal even though he did get rocked in the 5th inning against Rockledge.
Been hearing about Brian for a while and apparently the kid hits home run's a pitchs strike outs and he does both good enough to be scouted by the pros.
There were plenty there to see him play today and they weren't dissapointed.......luckily most were long gone by the fifth inning.
Possible future Hall of Fame pitcher?...you never know.
Here's a youtube of him getting 5 strike outs in one inning.

Pitching is easy.

Watching the ball fly over your head toward the outfield fence is hard.  Go Gators!

Brian Pitched a great 7 innings and then started the winning ralley with a single yesterday.

Not bad.

Johnson pitched brilliantly, holding one of the league’s most potent offenses scoreless over a career-high seven innings in which he gave up three hits. The southpaw registered a career-high nine strikeouts, the most by a Florida pitcher since Jeff Barfield (Perry, Ga.) had nine against Tennessee on March 20, 2009. Junior Kevin Chapman (Coral Springs, Fla.) (2-0) worked two innings and picked up the win after yielding a game-tying homer in the eighth.

With the teams deadlocked at a run apiece, freshman Brian Johnson (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) poked a one-out single up the middle off senior Mike Bolsinger (4-2) and was replaced by Dent on first base. Senior Matt den Dekker (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) (2-for-4) sent the right-hander’s next offering into right field for two runners aboard, bringing Zunino to the plate. The freshman stroked an 0-1 pitch into shallow right field and Dent was called safe at home plate to give the Gators their first series victory over the Hogs since the 2006

Cocoa Beach's Johnson on watch list

Cocoa Beach's Brian Johnson was named one of 25 players nationally on the John Olerud two-way player of the year watch list on Tuesday.

The award goes to the top two-way player in college basetball. As a pitcher at the University of Florida Johnson is 4-2 with a 3.74 earned run average and 38 strikeouts in 53 innings. As a designated hitter, he has a .385 (15-for-39) batting average with 10 RBI, including grand slams against defending national champion LSU and Alabama.

I keep seeing this kid's name in the paper for doing very impressive things on the field. His pitching has been great and the fact that he can actually hit the ball is a rare combination.

Brian is still throwing well.

Florida Gators advance NCAA baseball tournament

GAINESVILLE — Sophomore outfielder Tyler Thompson became the first Gator in history to hit three home runs in a postseason game as Florida rolled to a 15-0 win against Florida Atlantic to clinch the Gainesville Regional.

Florida (45-15) also broke the school postseason record with six homers in the contest, including three in the third inning. The previous best in NCAA tourney play was five against Florida Atlantic in 2003. This year's best was four against USF on April 21.
Freshman pitcher Brian Johnson of Cocoa Beach was named the Most Outstanding Player of the regional.
At the plate, he hit one of the trio of home runs in the third inning. On the mound, he allowed just five hits in seven innings while striking out four to get his sixth win in 10 decisions. He threw 97 pitches.
"They were really good tonight," Owls coach John McCormack said. "We just could not get untracked with Johnson. That guy is special. He's got a chance to be really good in the future, not that he's not already there."
"I think the biggest thing was getting ahead in the count," Johnson said.
