btw...NUTT...your wikipedia facts...

do you know who put that info there...?...for you to read...

btw...NUTT...did you know you can spend all day making wikipedia facts...

for us or anyone to swaLLow...you just need to start an account...

not true Lani. You can correct spelling errors but if you want to display or correct posted facts you must provide references. Good try though, you had me look into it.

It's great that I have a very solid and somewhat expensive health insurance plan. But what about the girl pouring my beer or the guy making my food that is sick and can't go see the doctor solely for a financial purpose but is at work because they need their job, happens everyday all over, just one way for virus's to spread.

There will never be something out there that everyone agrees with, but something does need to be done. How can we charge a person $600 for an ambulance ride that is literally 1/2 a block away. My friend ran over a guy on a hover-round right next to the hospital last month and that was the price for the ambulance ride.

edit- the guy was not hurt at all, scrape on his arm and bruised muscles. Not sure on the CAT Scan $$ figures.

OKAY...taken from da wikipedia site itself for any to read...no so cut and dry as NUTT put it...

again...for NUTT...just because information is there doesn't not make it totaly correct...the writer has there bias' and they will appear in pieces writen...no matter who you are....that was the hardest thing for me to overcome getting my degree in journalism...and I still have my bias...like we all do...I chose not to believe everything I read and hear...that's just me...

Wikipedia (pronounced /ˌwiːkiˈpiːdiə/ or /ˌwɪkɨˈpiːdiə/) is a multilingual, Web-based, free-content encyclopedia project. The name "Wikipedia" is a portmanteau of the words wiki (a type of collaborative Web site) and encyclopedia. Wikipedia's articles provide links to guide the user to related pages with additional information.

Wikipedia is written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. Anyone with internet access can make changes to Wikipedia articles. Since its creation in 2001, Wikipedia has grown rapidly into one of the largest reference web sites, attracting around 65 million visitors monthly as of 2009. There are more than 75,000 active contributors working on more than 13,000,000 articles in more than 260 languages. As of today, there are 2,989,509 articles in English. Every day, hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world collectively make tens of thousands of edits and create thousands of new articles to augment the knowledge held by the Wikipedia encyclopedia. (See also: Wikipedia:Statistics.)

Visitors do not need specialized qualifications to contribute. Wikipedia's intent is to have articles that cover existing knowledge, not create new knowledge (original research). This means that people of all ages and cultural and social backgrounds can write Wikipedia articles. Most of the articles can be edited by anyone with access to the Internet, simply by clicking the edit this page link. Anyone is welcome to add information, cross-references, or citations, as long as they do so within Wikipedia's editing policies and to an appropriate standard. Substandard or disputed information is subject to removal. Users need not worry about accidentally damaging Wikipedia when adding or improving information, as other editors are always around to advise or correct obvious errors, and Wikipedia's software is carefully designed to allow easy reversal of editorial mistakes.

Because Wikipedia is an ongoing work to which, in principle, anybody can contribute, it differs from a paper-based reference source in important ways. In particular, older articles tend to be more comprehensive and balanced, while newer articles more frequently contain significant misinformation, unencyclopedic content, or vandalism. Users need to be aware of this to obtain valid information and avoid misinformation that has been recently added and not yet removed (see Researching with Wikipedia for more details). However, unlike a paper reference source, Wikipedia is continually updated, with the creation or updating of articles on topical events within seconds, minutes, or hours, rather than months or years for printed encyclopedias.

If you have not done so, we invite you to take a few moments to read What Wikipedia is (and is not), so that you have an understanding of how to consult or contribute to Wikipedia. Further information on key topics appears below. If you cannot find what you are looking for, try the Frequently asked questions, advice for parents, or see Where to ask

OK Lani now find fault in this. The CIA has us ranked even worse than Wikipiedea! So my point fact stands, a baby born in Cuba has a better chance of survival.

Look NUTT....not here to change your mind...we all see things the way we do...

take a brand new surfboard for instance...cooL paint job..an all...but you can't tell looking at it what's on the inside...who made it or were it was made...

and like a computer screen...you don't see everything behind the view...

so let's look at the CIA information your talking about...btw...the same people who lied to Pelosi about waterboarding...pst...she knew...

the CIA didn't get that info you quoted firsthand...being at every hospital in every nation 24/7 counting little babies being born..and again monitor each and everyone....so were did the CIA probably get this information....

probably got the info from the Cuban Ministry of Health....nothing fishy there...so why would Cuba's infant mortality rate be lower than ours?....maybe to create the perception in his country that they have a better health system then america..

Boy… this article tripped my bullshit-o-meter into the red.

The government will not kill your parents or grandparents.

I’ll say it again baby… the government will not kill your parents or grandparents.

The “death panel” provisions of the health care reform bill have nothing to do with the government, other than they set the recommendation… not requirement… for you to meet with your doctor every five years to map out your next course of action when it comes to your care. There will be no government agent in the room.  It also mandates that these sessions be paid by Medicaid.

Note that it is NOT REQUIRED for you to meet with your doc every five years… it is a RECOMMENDATION. Face it, when you’re ancient you will see your doctor every five years.  Hell, you’ll see him or her every few months.  What else do you have to do?

In no way would these sessions be designed to encourage patients to end their lives.  If it did, don’t you think the AARP would be all over this?  They are actually IN FAVOR of these provisions.

For those who are freaking out to keep “da damn gobberment” flunkies out of my heath care, aren’t you aware that there are already third parties between you and your doctor?

Oh well, the third parties now are insurance company peeons.  That’s much better than the government.  Insurance companies ALWAYS think of you first.

Do you really think you’re getting a better proponent of your interests from the insurance companies?  Do oil companies’ work for the greater good of the public? How’s your 401k?  Did unregulated Wall Street strive to meet your retirement needs?

Health care as it stands now will bankrupt our country.  Change has to come and when people are forced into change they tend to pitch a nutty.  They grab on to anything they can find to justify or facilitate their fear.  That includes articles written by insurance company hacks such as the one linked in this post.  There in lies the problem.

The author… Betsy McCaughey… is just such a Fox.  Not that she’s hot, its just who she contributes to for her paycheck.

She writes: “One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions. Hospitals and doctors that are not “meaningful users” of the new system will face penalties.  “Meaningful user” isn’t defined in the bill. That will be left to the HHS secretary, who will be empowered to impose "more stringent measures of meaningful use over time"”

Sorry… but that is an outright lie.  For one thing, the National Coordinator of Heath Information Technology is NOT “new”.  It was created by President G.W. BUSH in 2004 to oversee the change of medical records from paper to electronic.  The office has no patient care authority; they simply transpose records to an electronic format.

In addition, nothing in the bill, nor in the structure of the federal government, gives the Secretary of Health and Human Services the capacity, funding, authority, or mandate to monitor the medical profession's treatment decisions and decide if they're appropriate.

The thing Ms. McCaughey is actually talking about, or trying to talk about, or trying to lie about, is comparative effectiveness review.  This sort of research goes on every day, all the time. Foundations fund it, as do universities and even pharmaceutical companies.

Not only isn't it sinister, it's not even particularly interesting.

Why shouldn’t we listen to Ms. McCaughey on this issue?  I mean… she is a doctor right?  Doesn’t she have years of training in health management and elder care?  No?  She has a PhD from Columbia in Constitutional History?

Shoot.  I was wrong, she is a doctor… just not medical.

Well I’m sure that Rahm Emanuel’s brother is no expert.  He is?  Are you sure?  Harvard and Oxford? He’s written dozens of noted papers on the dilemmas of relying on medical care proxies in caring for desperately ill patients, chemotherapy at the end of life, and other intimate clinical concerns… but what the fuck does he know?

Rush Limbaugh says he’s Joseph Mengele and that’s good enough for me.

Oh, and one other thing about Doc Emanuel. He has prominently opposed legalization of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide his entire career.

Fascinating considering he’s a Nazi.

Everyone needs to relax… Rush will still get his ludes.  He’s rich and white.  What we are talking about is the critical need to provide the best possible health care for ALL Americans.   In this case, my opinion is that a little socialism is for the greater good of the nation.

They are not changing the system for those of you fortunate enough to have satisfactory health insurance.  Your coverage, doctor and co-pay will stay the same.  We will still have six different hard on pills and no cure for cancer.

Health care in this country can no longer be a privilege, it must be a right.  We must hang together or we will surely hang separately.

Don’t allow yourself to be swayed by insurance lobby whores or talk radio hosts.  Their mandate is fear and keeping you ignorant.  As long as you stay scared and uninformed their job is complete.  And for God’s sake, don’t bother researching the issue yourself… thinking is HARD.

Besides, American Idol is on.

BIG difference...you have a CHOICE to use the maiL...you have CHOICE to buy a library card...you have a CHOICE to send your kids to a private or publice schooL....

so for health care...CHOICE...?
