Looking for an Outboard motor
« on: March 30, 2011, 09:00:20 AM »

looking for an outboard motor, 15" - 20" shaft, 40HP preferably but might go a little smaller. Need controls, no tiller. i'd like a 4 stroke if the price is right since this thing has a built in tank.

Anybody know of a place around here with a good used selection?

Waiting on a couple replies for ya.  I know you want to try and buy the motor where they will install it
for you all at once.  I know it can get pricey buying the motor separate then going somewhere to have it put on.

NICE!  Whalers are exceptional boats.
I've got a 4 but that won't do much for ya  :D

C I am open to that. I'm just hoping I can find a place to install it by the 8th.

i got a motor. couldnt find a used motor that fits this boat, in fact what I needed is pretty rare I guess. (20 - 40 w/ short shaft, and controls instead of tiller). I couldnt spring for the 40 but ordered a new 20HP mercury 4 stroke. boat will be ready next thursday, stoked.

a 20 is all you really need. A 40 would make that boat sketchy when running wide open.

That's a fun looking boat BRoll.  I got a similar boat about a year ago and it's so nice to get out there away from the crowds.

kind of wish I had a stearing wheel though mine's got the 25 merc with the tiller.

Cool shot of your boy. He will be stoked to take that thing out by himself one day I bet.

thanks sean. he loves the boat, calls it 'cool boat' and wants to sit in it everytime we go outside now, lol. my pops bought the hull for me, i was gonna buy a john boat w/ a merc 9.9 and he surprised me with the boat and told me to buy the engine. it's a 1969, crazy good shape for how old it is. now with the new engine it's sure to be around when my son is old enough to use it himself.
