Simple Solutions
« on: May 10, 2011, 05:03:21 PM »

After picking up Butts at the park for the last year I decided to try something low cost but efficient to help eliminate some of the work.  Of course not evrybody uses them but I did an experiment with two and they really worked so I just installed a half dozen more.  Not trying to pat myself on the back as much as encourage other to do similar ventures at their own parks.  A recycle bin here a trash can there can make diffrence.  I love my park. grouphug

Yeah I do need to label those.  The couple that I did a trial run with weren't labeled but if they were they might have worked even better.

Forgot to mention these things(dog food cans) can swivel upside down on the nail for emptying.

F-n nasa engineers got nothing on me. ;D

motherf%ckers  tore down my inventions, and threw the butts on the ground, all 8 of them and they aren't in any of the trashcans around.

otherwise i'd think it was just kids.

hmmmm....

it feels personal but i'm not gonna let it get to me.

i fed my dog the food that was in the cans and the spray paint and nails cost very little.  i lost a couple of minutes time. big deal.

still love my park.

shadow, I built something similar of the pvc jobs that ik posted and brought it to the indialantic commission meeting on behalf of the seb. inlet chapter and they said, "We'll take as many as you can give us."  I thought, "Damn, that's pretty greedy."  I mentioned we were looking to do these at walkdowns all around the county, but he must have missed that.  He did say they tried to put coffee cans up (i never saw them) at the BW walkdowns, but people just put trash in them. Thanks for trying.

I bet it was a slap in the face feeling after all the effort, thought, and investment even if it was minimal. You are a good citizen and your community efforts are to be admired and adopted by others. That is a good attitude not to let it bother you, but I know it does.
If you want to come up with a solution to fix them to something more sturdy I am willing to help.
Good job Sean O keep it up bro. It was either kids or them damn squirrels!

Thanks fellas.

Maybe somebody had a good reason for taking them down.  Not sure why they would dump the contents on the ground though. :'(

Shadow, I have some of the ones the city made, S/S heavy duty nuclear blast proof. I salvaged them from the scrap heap....
Surfrider Cocoa Beach installed several at Shepard park and several other places around town.
If you want web could install at ramp road.
The thing is your design is much better....simple (elegant) solution...is always better in my opinion.
thanks again for doing this.

Metal scrappers are going nuts right now, taring apart anything for the scrap metal (recycle facilities are paying more than ever for aluminum, steel, etc.).  My guess is the cans were taken by scrappers.

Awesome work though.
