I love the new Beetle.  If they ever built that modern take on the split screen bus that they did a concept on a few years ago I would definitely be a buyer!

Nice. Anodized finish is really a good idea. Magneto.
Forged crank (torsional stress) is probable.

Correct you are sir!
I wasn't thinking magneto but you can see it on the flywheel.
Also the cool little floatless carb is on the top left.
It's easy to see why this engine is so well respected.

Wishing for virtual reality rotation so I can see crank end, Splined ?
Carb looks pulse driven by crank case. Ref tube w90 elbow.
Carb would be set to run rich on decent. reduced power settings.
Durable detuned spec.
Cooling Duct inlet shape important.  Could run jugs out..
Dual coil...CDI box ?

Where's the oil cooler?
Does it not need one with that hurricane blowing over the jugs?

This post reminded me of my sisters ride in HS. It was green but this exact year / bodystyle.

I always loved the look of the Karmann Ghias...there's a house a couple blocks north from me on S. Brevard Ave that has a rusted out one sitting under the car port...been there for as along as I can recall.

People do some wild stuff to the Ghias too...check this one out:

Say what you will, the Ghia is one stylish vehicle.
You can clearly see Dr. Porche's hand in those lines.

They remind me of the old 356 "Bedpan" Porsche.
