Something Adventurous
« on: January 15, 2013, 11:04:25 AM »

So I didn't make a new year's resolution this year...instead I silently decided that this year I would try to do somethign adventurous.

Originally I was thinking about doing one fo those running races where you jump over fire and mud pits and stuff btu I'm not sure my knee can handle it so I was thinking about doing a long distance paddle.  Well "long distance" is subjective...I was thinking bridge to bridge or something like that.

Problem is I only have a 8' mini longboard.  Anyone have a true paddle board I can use?

Anyone interested in joining me?

You might as well buy a paddle board (prone). You can find good deals on them, Sean helped me with a 14'r for $450 or $500 from coffeee bob, chance he still might have one.

I've done some really cool paddles with shadow and due to get back on it. The coolest one we did (which I would fully go again) was from the draw bridge in the port to the pier. It was bad ass. The manatees are huge in the port, one went right between us. We have a plan to paddle from ramp road around to 13th we just have not planned so we can prepare. We called and learned will can't paddle thru the locks so we will have to walk a small portion. Not sure about the length from ramp to 13th but I'd guess 15- 20 miles??
Let me know.

That's awesome!  Yeah, I saw Sean's wooden prone paddle board, that thing is way cool.  I'd love one like that.

I've done some SUP'ing with "Slideaway" in the Thousand Islands but never any real distance...although the first time he took me the wide channel was really choppy.

If I can procure a paddle board or borrow one we should do a cool paddle this Spring before it gets too hot.

Hold up.  Ramp road headed N the ought the river through under 520 bridge, under 528 bridge, through the locks, around the port, head out to the ocean, then due South to 13st. NO WAY NJ makes this one. That's some good shit you're smoking son!

I think Big Rick is almost more likely to bust an air before this happens.

Man you are getting kicked in the nutz on this thread NJ  :P

Yeah we planned that trip and I think it was going to be over 20 miles which is doable just maybe not for me and Nuttjelly.

I completely forgot all about it.

Sounds like you have a cool idea Dan.

Not sure if you were looking for stand up or a prone board but I have a couple of prone  paddle boards you can use for this if you want.  That 14 foot wooden "kit" board is nice but a little wobbly and I also have a 12'5" that is very stable.

Thanks man...that would be awesome!  Yeah I think I'd rather do it prone as I'm pretty sketchy on an SUP.

I'm gonna plan it for probably March.  I need to figure out a good route...something challenging but do-able.

You sissies need to grow a pair.

Why don't you paddle the St. John's from 192 through Lake Washington to Lake Winder then carry your paddleboards 5 miles across mocassin infested cow pastures to a waiting car at the Viera wetlands.

Or not.
