I've seen more alligators in that portion of SJR near the OK Washington dam than anywhere else including the everglades.

A friend of mine had a bucket list item to travel the full length of the SJR. Phase on was from lone cabbage to jax then up to Amelia island and back to Sanford. He hired a guide to get him from lone cabbage to Sanford, that run is tricky. It was an org co marine sheriff that patrols that run. Took them 3 days with overnight stops on the way and back. So he wanted to complete it from LC to lake Washington, I told him there is a dam and he told me I was crazy. When we arrived he said well I'll be damned. The damn has a teeter totter ramp airboats and small vessels can use to get to LW this boat was too big. We had three GPS units and still struggled but if you stop and watch the water flow will show you the way. The narrow areas before the dam are absolutely infested w gators! No pics but I swear on anything I jumped in and swam in the middle of it, my buddy was tripping! Fun times, it is Florida in its most natural state.

When have you ever been out there?

I have a goal of paddling the Suwannee River start to finish from the Okefenokee swamp in Georgia to the Gulf but I don't think I can pull it off this year.  It's a two week trip on the river.

Here's a couple of fun sites to look at for adventure ideas.

This guy who has the Florida Adventures site has done an amazing amount of stuff in Florida over the years.  Lots of good info here but it may be dated.

The Florida Adventurer's are more about coming up with neat ideas than places to camp but they have some a couple suggestions of places to go also.

They didn't have my usual brand of grapefruit juice
so I switched and tried the publix kind.  Not as sweet.

Who knows, maybe I'll switch prunes too.
I'm all over this adventurous stuff...
