It still blows my mind that they are only willing to pay someone with that level of technical competence $30K/yr

Yep, if you were trying to support a family on that you'd be just above the poverty level.
Pretty lame.  I'm not trying to be political but there is something to the whole "income inequality" thing.
I wouldn't / couldn't suggest how to solve or even mitigate that
but when the top is making an order of magnitude or more than the middle in an organization,
there's something wrong.

well, i'm sure that most of you know that for
an approved higher budget, you have to show
that you spent every penny last years budget.

example, my teacher from valencia saved the
graphics program thousands upon thousands
of dollars and then showed the program head
those numbers hours before the budget was due
and was excited to do so just because he wanted
to show them how much he saved

she flipped out because they needed to spend every
penny so the following year, they could get a much
larger budget to upgrade computers and whatnot.
well, two hours later, the pallet of pencils that they
had to order on such short notice came through and
they then adjusted the numbers and turned everything
in right on time.

in the case that the head of an organization is making three
times what the median worker makes, i don't agree with that
by any means. if you are a non profit, then be a non profit and
spread those funds evenly with the exception of a slightly higher
pay for yourself. My Questions are, what is the threshold and do
you pay your employees based off of what the 501 (c) 3 earns in
that year?

It's going on everywhere.  It's no secret I bombed my medical boards.  I've talked to a few that have passed and are now employed doing Xray.  They are making $8.50 an hour.. That wage won't even begin to put a dent in $36 grand in student loans, let alone rent & bills.

They get more than that in the hospitals, but getting a job in there is close to impossible with everything that's going on with cutbacks. $8.50 is starting pay at all the walk in/emergency clinics.
