Ancient Artifact
« on: July 24, 2014, 08:21:04 AM »

So...I put a vid and it got myself and Mr. Holeman talking about the first time we saw Rodney Mullins skate. It was pretty shocking because at the time he was a bit pudgier than he is now and he was probably still in high school. So they brought him out and he began to do Rodney Mullins stuff. It was probably like seeing Jimi Hendrix for the first time. Later, he was hanging out in the lot just riding around and I started talking to him and he was so reserved but his skating was mental.

Then I remember had some pics from that day and in the process of searching I found this one.

Florida Pro surf contest. Maybe around 1980. They demoed this beast. For that time, it was just half pipes and kind of cruising around in a full pipe like Badlands so this was way out there. I think a few of the guys were local skaters too.

Maybe down the road Tim E. might see this and have an idea.

Think of the time frame though... Some one was tackling that on a big fat Hosoi with Sim Snakes and old school Indy trucks. I got to applaud them.

Killer photo of the Turn Point Ramp!

Here is a video of Steve Caballero as a grom skating the ramp:

Thanks Lapper!

I knew you would know something about the ramp. At least I have a name to what it is called. Cool vid too!

Yup, the Turning Point ramp.  I skated it a couple times.  On a hydraulic lift so they could crank it up to different angles....a blast, but scary slippery!!

It must have been in Florida for a long time in 79. Cool you got to skate it. It does look slick. Cess slide fever.

I remember seeing a video of RM back in the day pulling into a hand plant/invert/street plant from just squatting on his board and just muscling up into it.  I remember thinking how awesome that was.  We could only do them by standing and swinging our feet up.

Wow...RM has a net worth of $30M!  I bet his dad feels a little bad about trying to get him to quit!
